The flat roof is built up by applying materials such as tar, asphalt, and fiberglass. The process involves laying two or four layers of rolled-together sections in an overlapping way using either hot bushing adhesive or incorporating gravel at the top so UV rays cannot damage it further down.

Built-up roofs are a reasonable and durable choice, but they do require specialized equipment such as kettles that emit VOCs. Their lack of flexibility makes them difficult to maintain over time by UV rays which can damage the material itself or make it fall apart more quickly than traditional shingles on your house.

Single-ply roofs are a standard commercial roofing material and can be found in many varieties. They have the advantage of being both thinner, and lighter than their built-up counterparts with some models ranging between 45 – 120 millimeters depending on how thick you want it to feel when walking past your house without even trying too hard. EPDM is the original type of ply material. It contains both reinforced and unreinforced materials that are applied using a double tape adhesive to keep it watertight, which makes this particular kind popular for roofing applications because even though there are some limitations like ponding water or requiring repair after every ten years.

The durability question is one that’s often raised when it comes to choosing between TPO and PVC materials. While both have their benefits, there are some drawbacks with each type as well.  PVC roofing has been used longer than TPO materials, and PVC materials are more reliable. While TPO is considerably cheap compared to PVC materials. There are quite a few issues with TPO materials that need fixing and have a short life expectancy.
